Wine Regulations and Where to Buy Wine
If there is one question I am often asked is "where to buy wine that will ship to my state?" So this article will provide guidance with respect to state wine regulations.

The quick answer is “maybe”. The answer to the question above really stems from or depends on the state you live in and how much the lawmakers in your state appreciate a good bottle of wine. (Alright, I made that last part up, but really, it is up to the lawmakers to decide if they want to allow wine shipments into their state.)

There are currently 27 states plus the District of Columbia that allow wine to be shipped to their state. And they are:

1. California
2. Colorado
3. Connecticut
4. Florida
5. Idaho
6. Illinois
7. Iowa
8. Louisiana
9. Michigan
10. Minnesota
11. Missouri
12. Nebraska
13. Nevada
14. New Mexico
15. New York
16. North Carolina
17. North Dakota
18. Ohio
19. Oregon
20. South Carolina
21. Texas
22. Vermont
23. Virginia
24. Washington
25. West Virginia
26. Wisconsin
27. Wyoming

If your state is on the list – congratulations!

You can stop reading right now unless you are one of the kind souls who wants to help the other states mature to adulthood.

If you are unlucky enough to live in a state that does not appear on the list, read on – there is hope.

First of all, if your state does not appear on the list, then you cannot have wine shipped to your address and should continue purchasing wine at your local retailer. However, in order to change the laws, check out the organization called “Free The Grapes” at www.freethegrapes.org.

By the way, if you are a visual person and just can’t stomach the thought of scanning the list looking for your state, check out the nifty map at http://www.freethegrapes.org/wine_lovers.html#laws that shows a graphical representation of which states are allowing wine shipments within their borders.

In order to change the laws and enable wine to be shipped to any state, there are many campaigns currently in progress.

In addition to those listed at Free The Grapes, you are encouraged to contact your local representatives and voice your concerns over the issue. If the people in these states don’t speak up, the laws will never get changed and you will never have the pleasure to
buy wine online in your pajamas.
